TikTok is an application that a large number of young people use to publish short videos with music, and although it is a fun app, it is already causing controversy in some countries such as China and the United States.
The reason is that several investigations indicate that the app could put the national security of the United States at risk.

According to The Washington Post , Senators Charles Schumer and Tom Cotton have asked to see if the application poses any risk.
TikTok is becoming more and more relevant in the world. It is owned by Beijing-based parent company Bytedance and has risen in popularity to become one of the few Chinese social media apps to gain traction in Western countries.
Lawmakers are questioning the data collection practices of its operator and owner, and fear that the app will censor rules set by the Chinese government, limiting what American users see.
With more than 177 million downloads in the US alone, TikTok is a potential counterintelligence threat that we cannot ignore, the senators say.
"Given these concerns, we request that the Intelligence community conduct an Bannedessment of the national security risks posed by TikTok and other China-based content platforms operating in the US ."
The senators claim that the application collects a lot of data, including the user's location, for this reason, it is suspected that the Chinese authorities could force companies to support and cooperate with intelligence work controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.

TikTok stated in a statement that they store user data in the United States, and have a backup of the information in Singapore.
Our data centers are located entirely outside of China, and none of them are subject to Chinese law. Additionally, we have a technical team focused on adhering to strong cybersecurity policies and data privacy and security practices.
TikTok added that it does not remove content based on China-related issues.
“The Chinese government has never asked us to remove any content and we would not do so if asked. The US moderation team reviews content to comply with our US policies, as do other US companies in our space.”
